This idea, from
Memory Makers publisher Michelle Gerbrandt, makes a terrific gift for newlyweds or to commemorate any special occasion.
Materials:
one, Watchmaker Case two-inch round tin with glass top
gold spray paint
fourteen photos
photo safe adhesive
26 inches of one-inch wide colored ribbon
initial stickers
two 8-1/2" x 11" sheets paper for backing photos
pencil
masking or artist tape
scissors
ruler
Steps:
1. Create a circle template by tracing around the two-inch tin with a pencil. Cut inside the tracing line to create a circle template for cropping the photos. Crop 14 photos using the circle template. Cut 14 pieces of paper the same size to use for photo backing.
2. Pre-arrange the photos in a diamond pattern as shown in figure A. Select one photo to be inset in the two-inch round tin and one to be the top layer.
3. Mask the glass of the tin with masking or artist' tape and spray paint gold.
4. Cut a 14-inch piece of ribbon and adhere the top of the strip inside the tin; mount the inset photo atop the ribbon in the tin.
5. Cut one 9-1/2-inch strip and two 5-1/2-inch strips of ribbon.
6. Glue one 9-1/2-inch and two 5-1/2-inch ribbon "crossbars" to the vertical ribbon, leaving 1-1/2 inches between each ribbon (figure B).
7. Mount photos and backing on the ribbons at 1/2-inch intervals to create the diamond pattern shown in figure C.
8. To fold the photos back into the tin, begin folding all photos on the crossbar ribbon. Then start at the bottom photo (figure D), folding all photos upward until you reach the tin (figure E). Place the photos in tin with the bottom photo showing through the glass lid.
9. Customize the lid by accenting with initials if desired (figure F).
