Steps:1. Place photo on foam cutting mat and arrange nested template on photo, centering over image and adhere with low-tack tape. Holding mat, photo and template firmly in place, use swivel-blade craft knife to slice through photo using desired channels on template (figure A). Cut all channels of the template that covers the image area (figure B).
Note: To help keep the photo from coming apart when cutting, run photo through a Xyron machine to lay a film of adhesive to the back of the photo (figure C). Then it will stay together on the release sheet during the cutting process.
2. After all the channels have been cut, remove the template from the photo. Complete the layered cuts by using a straight-edge craft knife to complete the cuts left by the channels on the template (figure D).
3. Using the metal ruler, cut a vertical and horizontal line through the center point of the photo in each direction (figures E and F).
4. Reassemble mosaic pieces on card stock, working from the center out, being careful to keep pieces in the proper order (figure G). You can draw a frame of reference line on the card stock indicating the center point to help keep your pieces aligned as you work. Allow space between pieces to give a mosaic look and add dimension to alternating pieces with foam tape (figure H).
