La Conner Quilt Museum

Simply Quilts : Episode QLT-733 -- More Projects »
Join the Simply Quilts cameras as they tour a museum completely dedicated to quilting. This 1891 restored Victorian-era mansion is home to the La Conner Quilt Museum in La Conner, Wash. A recent exhibit featured renowned fiber artist Ruth McDowell 's quilts (figure A). According to museum director Rita Hupy, it's hard to believe that hMcDowell's quilts are pieced rather than appliqued. From geometrical complexity to flower shapes three-feet across, her vision is far from traditional .

It is the hope of the museum's founders that artists like Ruth McDowell can inspire quilters to come and learn. Exhibits at the museum change every two to three months and typically feature contemporary quilters as well as historical and regional collections .
