Continuing the discussion from an earlier show, professional crafter and author Jean Kievlan supplies further guidance for setting up a home crafting business.She prescribes the following tips:
  • Check with City Hall and other local authorities to make sure you have filled out the necessary forms and meet the necessary requirements in a given zone.
  • Establish a checking account solely reserved for the business.
  • Keep accurate records, including your fixed costsand how much you spend on overhead and supplies.
  • Print your price tags on computer-run self-sticking paper, and put your business contact information on the other side of your price tag, especially if your craft is likely to be a gift item.
  • Get a sales tax permit, which helps to give a professional image and makes it easier to procure supplies at below-retail cost.
