Craft Copyright Issues

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-123 -- More Projects »
Attorney Paul Supnik gives some of the following tips to prevent crafters from having troubles associated with copyrights and plagiarism:
  • Register your designs by contacting the copyright office in Washington, D.C., which provides applications for free. Although your work is automatically copyrighted as soon as you've completed it, it is still a good idea to register the copyright.
  • Be careful about using something copyrighted in your craft, especially if you plan to sell the craft commercially.
  • However, if you use copyrighted material for a craft that you make for yourself or as a gift, you are probably protected by the "fair use" clause.
  • Many pieces of clip art are not copyrighted, especially if you use fewer than ten pieces.
