Restore America Quilt: Block 4 Leo Carrillo Ranch

Inspired by HGTV's Restore America: A Salute to Preservation campaign, this quilt represents 12 sites across the United States in need of restoration. This block represents Leo Carrillo Ranch—also known as The Rancho de los Kiotes, home to Leo Carrillo of Pancho Villa fame.

Materials:

Restore America printed quilt pattern - Discontinued
fusible webbing
thread for satin stitching - yellow, orange, red, pink, blue, green
fabrics:
- background - 13" square turquoise (3)
- arc A - 9" square orange (17)
- cactus - 10" square light green (22)
- stripes - 4" x 12" dark green (21)
- arc E, strips H, I - 3" x 12" orange-brown (11)
- arc F, chevron G - 11" square yellow-orange (4)
- flowers, hand - 6" square light pink (16)
- flowers - scraps deep pink (14)

Cutting:

    Note: Number and letter notations are from the printed pattern. Unfortunately the pattern has been discontinued.

  • From turquoise (3), cut 13" square.

  • From orange (17), cut A.

  • From light green (22), cut B, J, M.

  • From dark green (21), cut C, D.

  • From orange brown (11), cut E, H, I.

  • From yellow orange (4), cut F, G.

  • From light pink (16), cut P, O, L.

  • From deep pink (14), cut K, N

Steps:

1. Fuse fabric and webbing for all templates except A. Trace and cut out all block pieces.

2. Position arc A and appliqué in place. Trim away excess fabric from behind arc.

3. Position cactus B as shown and lightly fuse. Repeat with stripes C and D. When satisfied with placement, complete appliqué by fusing.

4. Position arcs E and F and fuse in order, butting pieces together. Position G and fuse. Add H and I.

5. Position J, K, and L. Fuse when satisfied with placement. Repeat with M, N, and O. Add hand P.

6. After assembly is complete, machine satin stitch all edges in colors as shown.

7. Trim block to 12-1/2" square.
