The bordered flower block consists of a simple border on a rectangular block with flowers appliqued across the center and onto the border.

Steps:
Bordered Block
1. Cut (figure A):
(1) 4-1/2" x 14-1/2" rectangle (unit A) - background fabric
(2) 1-1/2" x 16-1/2" strips (unit B) - block border fabric
(2) 1-1/2" x 4-1/2" strips (unit C) - block border fabric

2. Stitch a 4-1/2-inch border strip (unit C) to either side of unit A. Stitch a 16-1/2-inch strip (unit B) to the top and bottom of unit A. Press seams toward the darker fabric.

Applique
1. Reuse the flower and leaf templates cut in the previous section. Cut flowers, stems and leaves from selected fabrics.

2. Adhere applique fabric pieces to the pieced background block using fusible web. Refer to the block picture for applique placement.

3. Blanket-stitch the raw edges of the fused applique with color-coordinated embroidery floss.
