Dori Hawks

Dori Hawks has been in love with sewing since watching her grandmother sew holiday outfits and doll clothes for Dori and her sister. Hawks' natural love of fabrics led her to quilting. Having taught some form of needlework for the last 30 years, she began to teach quilting, which led to expertise in the machine-quilting field.

Now a resident of South Carolina, Hawks makes biannual teaching trips to Texas, where her quilting instruction career began. She also teaches in South Carolina.

Hawks volunteers with quilt guilds in both Texas and South Carolina. She has served in numerous capacities for several guilds including board member, head of shows, and head of a group that provides quilts for children of abused and homeless women. Hawks is one of the founding members and serves on the board of the statewide group, Quilters of South Carolina.

In addition, Hawks served as the executive director of the worldwide American International Quilt Association. This group hosts a judged show at the prestigious International Quilt Festival, held annually in Houston, Texas.
