Host Renai Ellison uses magnolia designs in decoupage treatments on clear glass plates and wooden trays. Here's how.

Materials:

clear glass plate
floral design (cut from a paper or wallpaper)
decoupage glue
paint brush
metallic gold paint
unfinished wooden serving tray
paint pens - optional

Steps:
Plate
1. Select a paper design and cut it out (figure A). The featured projects have a magnolia motif.

2. Coat the front of each piece of the design cutout using decoupage glue and a sponge brush. Adhere each cutout to the back of the plate (figure B).

3. After applying the design, coat the bottom of the plate with one more applications of decoupage glue. Let dry.

4. Add gold stripes to the back of the plate using gold metallic paint (figure C). Let paint dry.

5. Cover the back of the plate and decoupage design with a light coat of black spray paint. Let dry. Repeat two to three times to cover completely (figure D).

Serving Tray
Carry the same technique and design used on the plate to a wooden serving tray. Here's how:

1. Seal an unfinished wooden tray with paint. This one is teal, but choose any color that accents your design.

2. Cut out design, then coat the back side of the design with decoupage glue. Adhere the designs to the flat part of the tray, covering the top with glue (figure E).

3. If desired, add even more accents using paint pens (figure F).
