Underwater Quilling

patterned scrapbook papers to simulate water, sand and sand dunes
scissors
1/8" wide quilling paper (Twirled Paper-Extra Strips)
quilling tool (Twirling Wand)
small square of corrugated cardboard
wax paper
tape
2 straight pins
white glue
6 5mm wiggle eyes

Loose Coil:

1. Tear a paper strip to the desired length (a torn end will glue down more invisibly than a cut end).

1. Cover a small piece of cardboard with wax paper. Tape the wax paper in place.
2. Twirl the paper strip into a loose coil. Place it on the cardboard and stick a pin through the center.
3. Push the coils on one side against the pin and anchor them in place with a second straight pin (Figure D).
4. Spread a thin film of glue over the coils that are pressed together. When dry, remove the pins and be sure to use the unglued side face up in your design.

Multicolor Coil:

To make a multicolor coil, glue a strip of one color to the end of a strip of another color. Use as many colors as you want and twirl as usual.

Curling and Waving Strips:

• Tight curls: Twirl the end of a strip of paper with your tool. Wiggle the tool out gently and you will have a tight curl.

• Loose curls: Curl the strip with the tool and then use your fingers to stretch the curl out into a looser curl.

• Waves: For very small waves run the strip through a paper crimper. For larger waves press the paper strip firmly against the pad of your index finger with the thumb and index finger of your other hand, then turn the strip over and press a bend into the other side just beyond the first, and so on.
