4. To begin making the cover, cut a 9" x 3-3/4" piece of paper and draw a line horizontally down the center of the paper (figure G).
5. Measure the front and back covers and the spine of the closed book pages and create templates for the covers and the spine (figure H).
6. With the book cover template, measure in one book width from one end of the 9" x 3-3/4" piece of paper and make a score line with the top end of a pen or with a dull plastic knife. Measure in another book length and make a another score line. At the end of the second score line, create a 1/2-inch valley fold facing the center of the paper.
7. Fold the piece of paper twice horizontally so that the edges meet the center line drawn in step 4.
8. Continue scoring the piece of paper according to the diagram in figure I .
