Homemade Invitations

Scroll Invitations

Materials:

imported Japanese paper (available at most artist supply stores) or any other sturdy paper of choice
dowel rods cut to size to fit scroll (available at home and craft stores)
spray paint (optional)
colored cording
cardboard or plastic tubes

Steps:

1. Print invitation that has been designed on a computer. Two should fit vertically on each 8-1/2-by-11 piece of paper. Cut out each invitation.

2. Attach rods with glue at either end of the paper. If you choose to spray-paint the rod, that should be done before this step.

3. Once the glue is dry, roll up the paper in a scroll style. Tie cording around the scroll in colors that match the ones used on the invitation. Place scroll inside tube.

4. Print out mailing labels that have been created on a computer. Two should fit horizontally on each piece of 8-1/2-by-11 paper. Glue onto the tube, and allow to dry for a day.

5. Special care will have to be taken when mailing these invitations. Check with the postal service for details.

Handwritten Invitations

Handwritten invitations in black ink have the best effect on white paper. A cotton-fiber paper works nicely for this, according to experts. One option is to hand-write the words directly onto the paper. Another option is to write out each line, scan the lines into a computer, center it, then combine the lines and print it out. Prepackaged invitation-making kits can also be purchased for this task. The theme used for handmade invitations can be carried all the way through to the thank-you notes.
