Figure C
Master paper cutter Olga Ponce Furginson returns to show how to cut geometric designs out of tissue paper. Along with Furginson, Carol Duvall cuts and creates her own designs. Furginson then displays a 10-foot banner and a birthday curtain as two prime examples of Mexican paper cutting.

Materials:

tissue paper of any size
scissors
X-Acto knife

Steps:
  1. Fold paper in half (figure A).
  2. Fold paper in half three more times, in the same direction. If you are using paper smaller than 8-1/2" x 11", fold only two more times (figure B).
  3. Cut the corners off at the top and start cutting along the side as you would do if cutting a paper snowflake (figure C).
  4. Open the first edge and continue cutting. Repeat this until all edges are cut.
Tips:
  • Try folding in different ways. Fold paper in half then fold again. Next fold one of the corners over. Cut all around it. Be creative!
  • Experiment on inexpensive paper before moving on to the actual project.
