Materials:

acid-free paper
permanent inks - beach ball yellow, popsicle orange, red pepper , watermelon red, bikini pink, purple surf, awning green, citrus, lettuce
laminating system
colored art paper - white, cream, speckled, peach
colored art board - gold, purple, red, blue
decorative-edge scissors
water-based, fine-line markers - lime green, dark green, brown, black
1/4-inch hole punch
nine inches of 1 /4-inch ribbon
glue stick
pencil
scissors
sponges
tweezers
spray bottle
freezer paper
paper towels
small paintbrush
water cups

Steps:

1. Cut the art paper to a l-3/4" x 7-1/2" rectangle.

2. Draw stems with a green watercolor pen.

3. Tear the dampened paper into small petal shapes, tinting it with bikini pink ink (figure A).

4. Tear the dampened paper into leaf shapes, tinting it with awning green ink.

5. Glue the dried flower petals in place. Glue leaves at the base of the stem (figure B).

6. Trim the bookmark with decorative scissors.

7. Cut a piece of contrasting paper 2-1/8" x 7-7/8".

8. Assemble both pieces together and laminate (figure C).

9. Punch a hole at the top and thread with ribbon.

Butterfly

1. Tear two dampened paper pieces into oval shapes.

2. Tint with beach ball yellow ink and tint the outer edges with watermelon red , allowing the color to bleed.

3. Draw a butterfly body with brown and black watercolor pens.

4. Glue the wings in place with a glue stick.

Tip: Keep the paper dampened when tearing and tinting.
