Craft expert Sandi Genovese has the do-it-yourself ways to make beautiful embossed greeting cards.
Stencil Embossing
Materials:
paper
tape
embossing stencil
light table or sunlit window
stylus
Steps:
- Lay the paper face down and lightly tape it to the stencil.
- Turn the whole deal over so that the paper is on top and the stencil faces the light source.
- Using the stylus, press around the edges of the design from side to side or top to bottom.
- Gently, but firmly, press paper into stencil to create a raised design. A gentle touch is important because this may leave grooves in the paper.
Faux Embossing
This is a shortcut that adds the beauty of embossing without the extra time. Cut shapes from the same type of paper as the background page and adhere to the page in one or more layers with a glue stick or mounting adhesive sheets.
Die-Cutter Embossing
This may be done by sliding paper between a male and female embossing plate and pressing out the embossed shapes.
