These boxes were designed and demonstrated by Leila Steineckert.

Materials:

gift box
rubber stamps
clear embossing powder
green pigment ink pad
heat gun
black pigment ink pad
cranberry ink pad
black permanent ink pad
long stick
tan paper
text-weight paper
string
metallic 14k gold paint
green Glaze Vernis paint
plastic wrap
oriental coins
Penscore foam
glue
stipple brush
gold leafing pen
ink pads
dominos
Diamond Glaze dimensional adhesive

Steps:

1. Using a purchased gift box, dab gold and green paints on the top and edges of the box.

2. Stamp tan paper with oriental writing stamp, and glue it on top of the box (figure A).

3. Cut sticks to fit the size of the box. Ink an oriental stamp with pigment ink. Gently but firmly roll the sticks over the inked stamp until the design is picked up on the stick (figure B).

4. Coat the stick with clear embossing powder and emboss. Tie two sticks together with string and glue them to the box (figure C).

5. Make a 'handle' on the back of a domino with tape. Either use permanent ink or use pigment ink and emboss. Ink up the stamp and use the tape 'handle' on the domino to hold it; press it firmly on the inked stamp (figure D). The result will be a stamped image that looks like ivory (figure E).

6. Color the edges of the domino with a gold leaf pen. Then use a stipple brush to stipple color on top of your stamped domino. Glue the domino to the top of the box (figure F).

7. To stamp the coins: Spread a group of oriental coins flat. Heat Penscore foam with an embossing gun and press it firmly onto the coins. Ink the foam and stamp a sheet of paper with the coin design (figure G).

8. To make the Happi jacket: Fold in half a two-inch square of the coin-stamped paper. Fold both edges on the open end of the paper together to make a small hem. This hem is the lapel of your jacket (figure H).

9. Bring the right and left top corners toward the crease in the hem and fold. It will look somewhat like a hat (figure I).

10. Now turn the unit over from the bottom to the top. Fold the unit in half and then unfold (figure J).

11. Fold the left and right top edges to the center middle crease you just made (figure K).

12. Turn the unit over again from the top to bottom. You will find two small triangular pockets. Insert your fingers or a stylus tool in each pocket and pull apart until a rectangular shape appears (figure L) and your triangular pockets are gone (figure M).

13. Turn the unit over and glue the Happi jacket to the top of the box.

Tips:
- Happi jackets can be made any size that you want by using different sizes of square papers.
- Dominos now come in different sizes. You can find some very small, which is great for cards.
- You can use oriental newspapers to decorate your box.
- You can coat your domino with Diamond Glaze for a raised glass-like finish.
