Carol shows how to make sturdy, practical table that is so appealing to the kids that it will make adults yearn for younger days. Atop this or any other table, why not add some greenery with an out-of-the-ordinary ice bowl?
Table
Materials:
large cardboard box* cups
crayons
drawing paper
double-sided tape
paper tablecloth and place mats in patriotic colors
coordinating napkins and utensils
craft knife
hot glue gun
*Carol used a refrigerator carton from an appliance store (figure A).
Steps:
- Cut the box to the desired height of the table. Reinforce the table by gluing extra pieces of cardboard inside the corners and the top (figure B).
- Glue a place mat and a piece of drawing paper on top of the table near each edge.
- Glue the middle of a strip of ribbon to the left of each place mat, and tie the ends together around a set of utensils wrapped in a napkin.
- Above each place mat, cut a hole in the tabletop slightly smaller than the circumference of the largest part of the cup.
- Slip a cup in each hole, and fill it with crayons (figure C).
- When it's time for dinner, remove the drawing paper and attach a disposable plate to the place mat with double-sided tape (figure D).
