Alternative design
Project by Debba Haupert.

Scrapbooking gets back to nature with this outdoor-inspired book cover. Use special image-transfer fabric to create a custom cloth-covered cover and even fabric stickers for the inside pages. Natural elements such as rocks, sticks and moss frame the fabric for this alfresco memory book! You can even make your own faux rocks and twigs using polymer clay.

Materials:

Blumenthal Craft Crafter's Images vintage romance cottage disk
Blumenthal cotton poplin PhotoFabric
inkjet printer
DMD Industries "Paper Reflections" 9" x 11" black memory book
Liquid Nails, Perfect Glue 1
twigs, rocks, moss
coated hair bands (black without metal band)
Therm-O-Web double-sided adhesive sheets

Steps:

1. Select image from clip art disk. Place single sheet of PhotoFabric in your inkjet printer and print desired image(s) on fabric side.

2. Dry 15 minutes or with a dry iron. Peel the paper backing sheet away (figure A). Rinse for 30 seconds under running tap water or until waters runs clear. Dry fabric on towel or blot with towel then iron.

3. Remove wire spine from memory book.

4. Cut out printed fabric image and position on cover. Leave room for "The Cabin" underneath the image. Glue to cover (figure B).

5. Glue rocks around fabric (figure C).

6. Cut, lay out and then glue little twigs to spell "The" on cover.

7. Spell "CABIN" with glue (one letter at a time) and cover with moss. Allow to dry completely (figure D).

8. For inside pages: Create fabric stickers with printed PhotoFabric by printing images on fabric, washing and drying it as in steps 1 and 2. Remove backing on double-sided adhesive sheet and apply to back of fabric (figure E).

9. Cut out stickers and place inside book (figure F) and embellish around fabric stickers with ribbons and beads.

10. Stack cover over pages. Feed covered hair bands through spine holes (figure G).

11. Insert larger twig through hair bands (wrapping each end of the band around the twig) and position twig to form spine of book (figure H).
