Photo Transfer Collage

As a child, Jacqueline had quite an extensive collection of dolls. Since it was a "collection," that meant she wasn't allowed to play with the dolls. That was only great inspiration for her doll-themed artwork as an adult. In this project, she combines many of her other artistic talents to create a photo transfer on collaged canvas.

Materials:

rubber stamps
Moshi blue Korean fabric paper
gel medium
image printed on ink jet printer
iron
canvas
blue and brown wash
rice paper
acrylic paints

1. Stamp a border design (2" x 12") on the blue paper.

2. Print out your image on an ink jet printer. Let it dry. After it dries, iron it to make sure the ink is set.

3. Coat the transfer with gel medium. Wait until the gel medium dries completely; wet the back and remove the extra paper (figure A), leaving the face and any other area so that it will be opaque. When you remove the paper, it will be transparent. Let it dry.

4. Glue the transfer to the canvas using the gel medium (figure B). Let it dry.

5. Paint a blue and brown wash around the perimeter of the canvas. Rub off extra paint. Let it dry.

6. Glue down your stamped design and layers of rice paper on the canvas (figure C). Add the Moshi (or other fabric) to the striped area of the dress.

7. Add a little dry brush paint to the stripes and a little over the rice paper to pick up the texture.

8. When the painting is dry, stamp little flowers into the background. Let it dry.

9. Wait until it dries completely, and dry brush the texture with the light gold (figure D).
