Decorative Branches

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-143 -- More Projects »
Carol and friend Deborah Harmon confirm that tree branches and twigs can be inexpensively converted into a number of items, including walking sticks and colorful works of art.

The process is simple. Start by gathering branches and twigs, both large and small, in your backyard or from your local parks. Branches with unusual features or shapes will work particularly well and will result in the most creative outcomes. Next, scrape off the bark and sand down the wood a bit until there is a clean surface.

Although Carol and Deborah used paint pens to decorate their branches, woodburning and papier mache might also be considered. If you decide to paint, be sure to prime the wood with a base color and finish it off by applying a polyurethane finish.
