Cibachrome Prints

Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-107 -- More Projects »
Using Cibachrome prints and retouching dyes, artist Jane Gottlieb produces the appearance of hand-colored photographs. These types of prints, which are now known as Ilfochrome, are the only kind that won't fade. To obtain this effect, simply take a slide of your photograph to a camera store and ask for a Cibachrome or Ilfochrome print. Paint the resulting print with transparent retouching dyes (see resource section). Once the surface of the print is wet, the dye will be absorbed and will mix with the pre-existing color, just as though you were using watercolors and mixing them on a palette.

Note: Cibachrome is now known as Ilfochrome because of a change in company ownership.
