Rachel Koepke is a Jersey girl who moved from the East Coast to the Midwest to attend a boarding school. From there she continued on to college in Nebraska where she met her future husband and later had two kids. These days Rachel keeps herself busy raising her kids, being a part time graphic artist, and helping her husband run his business. She also makes sure she finds time for her art. She loves to experiment with different processes and mediums and nowhere is this more apparent than in her beautiful mixed-media paintings.Materials:
craft knife
foam core

Steps:
1. Sketch a selected picture (apple) onto a sheet of foam core with a pencil (figure A).
2. Score around the outline of the picture with a craft knife.
3. Cut away sections of the foam core exposing the soft foam beneath the smooth paper layers using a craft knife.
4. Rub black charcoal over the etched lines of the wall art. Rub it in with your fingers (figure B).
5. Remove additional sections of the foam core forming the leaf shapes and stems (figure C).
6. Fill in the areas with a heavy application of charcoal (figure D).
7. Apply watercolors over the mixed media wall art design until the desired result is achieved (figure E).
8. Sprinkle coarse salt over some sections of the watercolors while wet for a textured appearance (figure F).
9. Add details to the mixed media wall art using bright colored pastels.
10. Complete the background using blocks of watercolor washes and charcoal.
