small, old brush to apply Mod Podge
Steps:
1. Sand the wood if needed and wipe with a tack cloth.
2. Apply two or three coats of wicker white paint, sanding between coats if necessary.
3. Wipe the screen area with a mild solution of soap and water. Let dry thoroughly.
4. Apply strips of packing tape to the back side of the screen (figure A).
5. Draw or trace a rough outline of the design on the screen using chalk (figure B).
6. With an old paintbrush, apply Mod Podge to the center of the screen (figure C). Let dry thoroughly.
7. Apply a second coat of Mod Podge and let dry.
8. Apply a third coat of Mod Podge. Repeat until you have built the Mod Podge by layering it through the holes of the screen, filling the holes until there is a relatively smooth surface to paint on.
9. With a small, flat brush, loosely and in an airy-type manner, dab on Hauser green dark paint (figure D).
10. Wipe the brush. Dab on Hauser green medium paint. Wipe the brush and dab on Hauser green light paint (figure E). Let dry.
11. Using the liner brush and thinned white paint, make a dot and create loops protruding from the dots--as many as desired to create a bow. Add streamers to the bow and let dry.
12. With a finger or a brush, dab on a little medium green paint.
13. Fill a small flat or round brush with thinned white paint. Brush four- or five-petal flowers into the wet green paint (figure F). Let dry.
14. Paint additional flowers scattered over the existing flowers.
15. Fill the liner brush with thinned yellow paint and create dots of yellow centers in some flowers.
16. Add small dots of blue paint to create a touch of extra color.
17. If desired, spray with clear acrylic for protection.
