Materials:

sandpaper
two colors of paint (colors used for this technique - Ralph Lauren - Banyon, Coldwater Canyon)
rags

Steps:

  1. Sand peeling paint by folding a piece of sandpaper in half. Hold it with fingertips and lightly rub the mullions back and forth (figure A).
  2. Be sure the base coat is acceptable (no bare spots, clean and dry). Dip a rag into paint and wipe it on the surface (figure B). Don't worry about total coverage, as you actually want some of the white to show through.
  3. Once dry, go over the first washing layer with another color (figure C). Use this to highlight the woodwork rather than cover the first coat.
