Thanksgiving Table Runner

This quick and easy table runner using cottons and wool will add elegance to your Thanksgiving table.
Materials:

Fall Elegance table runner pattern
1-1/6 yard cream and green check – center block background and flying geese border
1-1/2 yard green leaf print – flying geese, backing and binding
1/3 yard medium green marble – inside border and corner squares
dark neutral cotton sewing thread
various sizes of over-dyed wool blend pieces in greens, gold, oranges and brown
freezer paper
Roxanne’s Glue Baste-It
DMC embroidery floss in black and dark green

Steps:

1. From the check fabric cut one piece 14-1/2"w x 34-1/2" (figure A).

2. From the green marble fabric, cut two strips 1-1/2" x 14-1/2". Sew one of these strips to each end of the large piece cut in step 1. Press seams toward green.

3. From the green marble fabric, cut two strips 1-1/2" x 36-1/2". Sew one of these strips to each side of large piece (figure B). Press seams toward green.

4. From the check fabric, cut 104, 2-1/2" squares. With a Pigma pen, draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of fabric (figure C).

5. From the green leaf print, cut 52, 2-1/2" x 4-1/2" rectangles (figure D).

6. Place a green check square on the corner of a green print rectangle. Stitch along the diagonal line, trim and press seam toward square. Repeat this with another check square on the other end of the rectangle (figure E). Make 52 of these units.

7. Sew eight Flying Geese units together (figure F). Stitch this to the narrow end of the table runner. Repeat another strip of eight Flying Geese and stitch to the other end of the runner.

8. Sew 18 flying geese units together to form a 36-1/2" strip (figure G). Repeat to make another one. Cut four 4-1/2" squares from the green marble fabric.

9. Sew one square (figure H) to each end of both 36-1/2" strips. Sew one of these units to each long side of the runner.

10. Trace appliqué pattern pieces onto dull side of freezer paper. Cut out on drawn lines. Iron shiny side onto wool blend pieces. Cut these out.

11. Position appliqué pieces onto each end of the table runner (figure I). Once the pieces are in the desired position, use tiny dots of Roxanne’s glue to hold them in place.

12. Appliqué wool pieces onto background using a blanket stitch with three strands black embroidery floss. Draw pumpkin vines with a pencil or a thin line washout marking pen (figure J). Using a backstitch, go over these vines with three strands dark green embroidery floss.

13. Layer top with batting and backing and quilt using desired method.
