Creative Gift-Wrapping

TIPical Mary Ellen : Episode TIP-329 -- More Projects »
TIPical Mary Ellen host Mary Ellen Pinkham provides fun and creative suggestions for wrapping gifts.
  • A striped kitchen towel makes a great covering for a kitchen-shower gift. Instead of decorating the package with a bow, attach a plastic or copper scouring pad or colorful plastic measuring spoons.

  • Wrap a baby shower gift in a receiving blanket or a cloth diaper, and attach it with diaper pins.

  • Try wrapping a present in sheet music for anyone who is musically inclined.

  • Wrap a going-away gift in a large, colorful map and adorn it with small travel-related items such as a compass.

  • Attach fresh flowers to the bow.

  • Use leftover wallpaper to wrap a gift. Sometimes department-store shopping bags can be recycled as wrapping paper, especially those decorative holiday bags. Place a large bow on the package, or glue the cover of a decorative card over the logo.

  • In a pinch, you can wrap a gift in a brown paper bag that has been decorated with markers or paint pens.

  • Another option is to use old clothing to wrap gifts. For example, an old dress or shirt that may be nice looking but if it's out of style or doesn't fit, it can be cut and used as clever wrapping paper.
