Project designed by Shelley Kincaid.

Materials:

sleeves from blouses, dresses, robes, nightgowns shirts, etc.
scissors
trim
ribbon
one-hole paper punch
small gift tag
glue gun

Steps:

  1. Position the sleeve flat on work surface, centered with the seam side up.
  2. Cut the sleeve off at the desired length.
  3. Turn material inside out, then stitch a seam across the cut edge.
  4. Turn fabric right side out and insert a gift. If the sleeve has a cuff, leave it standing up.
  5. Tie a festive ribbon under the cuff edge. If desired, use fancy ponytail holders, bows, curly bows, earrings, lace or tassels instead of ribbon.
  6. Use a one-hole paper punch to make a hole in the corner of a small gift tag. Insert a short length of ribbon through the card, then tie it to the bag by attaching it through an exposed buttonhole at the cuff of the sleeve or to the top closure ribbon.

Tips:

  • If using especially fine fabric sleeves like velvet, satin or lace, make them very fancy so they can be recycled as potpourri bags.
  • Use a glue gun to attach earrings, lace, appliques or silk fringe.
