When British-born Sally Meding was in school she dreamed of being a potter. But after a friend told her there was no money in it, she pursued a PhD in the un-artsy field of science. After getting married and moving to Germany, California and finally Texas, she once again felt the pull of her artistic leanings.

Completed Reindeer Card
Reindeer Card

Materials:

5" x 7" watercolor cards with deckle edge
handmade paper - blue with white clouds (approx 4" x 5")
thick brown-colored paper or paint your own (for antlers)
taupe-colored felt
red ribbon
Mylar balloon confetti (for baubles)
Mylar snow flake confetti (or punch your own)
small red pom-poms (reindeer nose)
fine permanent black marker
fine blue marker and deckle-edged ruler (for border)
glue (super heavy gel medium)
sparkly stickers or sequins

Steps:

1. Cut out felt head, body and nose from felt. Cut out two antler shapes from brown paper.

2. Cut the Mylar balloons into bauble shapes and add thread for hanging.

3. Assemble reindeer; add eyes and mouth in black permanent marker, glue on pom-pom for the nose.

4. Glue blue cloud background to the card. Glue down antlers after threaded baubles have been hung on them (figure A). Glue reindeer down and finally glue Mylar three, five or seven snow flakes randomly over card. Finally, embellish with sparkly stickers or sequins.
