Forest Measurements for Fabric of Forest
Trees:
- Three 3-1/2" x 6-1/2" rectangles
Sky:
- Six 3-1/2" squares
Trunk:
- One 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangle
Background for the trunk:
- Two 2-1/2" x 3-1/2" rectangles
Sewing together
- Lay one sky square right side down on top of one tree rectangle, right side up and lined to the left side. Sew diagonally across the sky square only (Figure A). Press with sky triangle going up and cut out excess fabric from underneath. Repeat process for the other side and for remaining two rectangles.
- Once completed, line up three tree pieces in a column and sew all together (Figure B). Set aside and sew one background fabric to the trunk and repeat for the other side. Sew tree piece and trunk piece together.
Border (Figure C)
Measurements for Pieced Border
- Cut 3-1/2-inch strips of two contrasting fabrics.
- Sew two strips together with a 1/4-inch seam allowance and press fabric toward the darker fabric.
- Cut two 3-1/2" squares from strips.
- Flip them to make a check pattern.
Gingerbread Man
- Use a cookie cutter or paper pattern to draw the gingerbread man. He needs to be less than 5-1/2" because the block is 6".
- Trace the gingerbread pattern onto the smooth side of the fusible webbing.
- Apply fusible webbing to the back side of the gingerbread fabric.
- Heat set with an iron and cut gingerbread man out.
- Take off backing and place the gingerbread man on the right side of the background fabric and heat set with an iron. (Figure D)
Embellishments
Wide rick-rack can be used to embellish the edges of the roof (Figure E), and buttons can be added to the gingerbread man to complete your Gingerbread House Christmas quilt.
