Editor's Picks 2004: Scrapbooking and Paper Crafts Special Presentation : Episode HHOB1-S04 -- More Projects » By Tammy Jones, HGTV.com
I can never get enough of Anna Griffin's beautiful papers, stamps, stickers and die cuts. New for this year are the children's collection and masculine collection, including die cuts, albums, and papers--48 new paper designs in all. There's also a fantastic new Anna Griffin scrapbook kit that includes the album, 10 papers, die cut sheets, frames, stickers and more--all in an elegant fabric-covered, ribbon-tied Anna Griffin box. What a wonderful gift! The box itself is a treat; all the beautiful supplies inside are a bonus. Website: Anna Griffin Website: Plaid Crafts Online
Anna Griffin has joined forces with Envelopments to license her designs on their cards, in addition to the extensive line of colors and patterns that they already had. I love Envelopments; I've been using them for over a year now in various card projects--they make cardmaking a snap. They come in dozens of colors and sizes in several styles, including Z-folds, pocket folds and the true envelopment, whose four flaps fold in to create a card and envelop in one. The possibilities are so exciting--check out their web site for a great gallery of samples to get you started. Website: Envelopments
Author, designer and crafter extraordinaire Tera Leigh has joined forces with Ranger to create a clever Faux Mosaic Kit that allows you to create mosaics quickly and easily using bits of paper instead of tile. Each kit includes glue, "grout" and tile glaze--add any paper you like. It's a great way to use up even the tiniest bits of paper leftover from scrapbooking and other paper projects.Website: Faux Mosaic Kit
In addition to 22 new Accents (like those used in our Handmade Cards projects), Meri Meri now has their own line of cardmaking supplies. Cards come in four sizes (A7, A2 and enclosure, with envelopes, plus place cards), in white, quartz and cream.Website: Meri Meri
The I kan' dee line from Pebbles Inc. is full of fine, versatile products that really go beyond scrapbooking and paper crafts. The square Keepsake Frames come in brushed silver metal, in three sizes, with a loop at the top for attaching to pages or to use as a pendant. The round Keepsake Pockets are available in brushed silver and antique pewter. The two pieces of glass in the front and back make these perfect holders for a variety of fillings. I kan' dee's Twist Ties are a clever take on such a common little thing. They're printed on two sides with related words (like "rest" on one end and "relaxation" on the other) so that when they are twisted, the words come together to make a phrase. Available in four themes so far, but hopefully there will be more to come. Website: I kan' dee from Pebbles Inc. Website: Pebbles In My Pocket - Online Store
Creative Imaginations featured several new products and artist lines. Those of you who have long been fans of her art, as I have, will be thrilled to see her new line of scrapbooking products from Sandra Magsamen, which includes papers, stickers and glossy, dimensional epoxy stickers, all in her signature bright colors--plus the Faith & Harmony line in white and gold. I had the pleasure of getting to do a Make 'n' Take in the Savage Papers booth, making a great little Valentine book using their Stick-Itz, a self-adhesive, acid-free paper that can be repositioned for up to an hour. The 8" x 10" sheets allow you to turn any photo, clip art or design--or anything else that you can print--into a sticker, and it's available in 21 different colors! Website: Savage Paper
There were so many incredible papers at the show, it was truly overwhelming. One collection that I especially liked is the line of "vintage modern" papers from Paper Love Designs. Their "Wish You Were Here" line of travel-themed papers include collage-style vintage map and postcard images for many of the States as well as other countries and international cities. The Vintage Ephemera line includes vintage advertisements, newsprint, wine labels, perfume labels and luggage labels (because "when it took days or even weeks to get anywhere, you wanted people to know where you had been."). The HolidayCollection features vintage Valentines and other 19th century greeting cards and clip art.Website: Paper Love Designs
Fiber Friend templates (in shapes like trees, the alphabet, leaves, flowers, border designs and more) and the Fiber Friend spacing ruler (used in this Carol Duvall Show project) from Timeless Touches allow you to stitch on paper so easily and neatly that it looks professionally done. Stitch with wire, embroidery floss, threads or just about anything else you can think of. If fibers aren't your thing, try the Eyelet Friend, which is similar to the Fiber Friend templates but the holes are larger (available in 1/8" and 3/16"), allowing you to space eyelets in designs and frames as perfectly as the Fiber Friend does stitching. Don't know where to start? Their technique book will instruct and inspire you to use fibers and stitching in your paper crafts.Website: Timeless Touches
Add movement to your scrapbooks and increase the number of photos you can get on each one with Page Additions. The Spin-N-Wheel allows you to use eight or 16 images under a spinning wheel and comes pre-printed with lines and arrows to guarantee proper orientation and placement of the images, plus the correct way to overlap images for a smooth spin. The Slide-N-Hide and Slide-N-Show allow you to slide images out like a telescope, using three or even five images in the space normally taken by one photo. With the Move-N-Picture, you can use more than 30 photos on one page! The Slide-N-See is a great way to show a before and after effect, flipping like window blinds from one photo to another. There are also more than a dozen Stamp-N-Frames that coordinate with the other products. Website: Page Additions
The I-makit Scrapbook Kit from Maude Asbury allows you to turn any fabric you like into your own custom-covered scrapbook. The kit includes two self-adhesive cover boards, a pattern, a preassembled, post-bound 10-pack of 12" x 12" sheet protectors and an expandable spine cover. Add your own fabric (two 14" x 15" pieces), scissors and imagination to turn anything into a scrapbook cover--an old T-shirt, a child's favorite outgrown dress, a monogrammed team shirt, or photo-transferred fabric that you made yourself. The insides of scrapbooks are so personal; now the outsides can be, too.Website: Maude Asbury's I-makit
For those times when you can't think of a single thing to say on your scrapbook pages, here's a line of sassy books to help you out in every situation, for every occasion. First there was Croppin' Dictum--which has paved the way for Big Strong Titles (nearly 700 sayings and titles for masculine scrapbook pages) and Travel & Holiday (37 categories with over 800 sayings and titles). Shortcuts! Crafts has just that--papers with a shortcut to help you do projects more quickly and easily than before. What's the shortcut? Their papers are all self-adhesive, even the vellum (in 20 shades), which is so hard to glue invisibly, and the first ink-jet printable, tearable, self-adhesive mulberry paper on the market (available in six shades). But there's more than just paper--they also have real self-adhesive metal sheets (aluminum, brushed aluminum, galvanized and deck-plate patterned) and fabric sheets (cotton and even denim!)Website: Shortcuts!
Darby Paper is "creative supplies for the metropolitan set." Everything about their products is clever and original. The first collection is called Pash--papers depicting Chinese food, boudoir dressing tables, candy and hotel suites, in pairs of two sheets that can be used alone or together for a double-page spread; and stickers with words and phrases like "swoon" and "bewitched, bothered and bewildered"--all done in red and black. Forthcoming lines have fun names like Flitter (travel themes in blue) and Hopper (entertainment themes in gold). Check out their Ideas page for great ways to use their papers.Website: Darby Paper
From Hot Off The Press' marketing director Sara Naumann comes sarabooks, a line of "interactive journalesque gift books" designed to help you make beautiful, unique books quickly and easily. The book blanks come in four shapes (6" round, 6" square, 5"x7" split rectangle and a 5"x7" rectangle) with pre-drilled holes and 12 sheets of pocketed paper inside. The sarabooks line includes decorative papers, fibers, tags, charms, glassine envelopes and embellishments, all in color-coordinated themes (creativity, friendship, nature, journey or love and family), all represented in emerald, sapphire, ivory, garnet and amethyst products. All My Memories Twill Sayings and Sticky Little Words are packages of themed words and phrases printed on strips of self-adhesive twill and linen, respectively. They're a great way to add dimension and texture to your scrapbook pages, and the perfect thing for natural or more masculine scrapbook pages. Website: All My Memories
A.W.Cute's Conectics are layered embellishments that you connect with brads. Layer frosted and clear plastic shapes (blocks, ellipses, circles, bricks and strips) printed with letters and pre-punched with holes in different places on each piece. Connecting the pieces with brads creates fun, unique words on your scrapbooking pages. Website: Conectics
Though it isn't new, Magenta's line of Mozaics is really clever and worth sharing. Mozaics are self-adhesive pre-cut papers that you can stamp on, then peel apart and reassemble on a card to create the look of a mosaic. Very clever and versatile! The stickers resemble tiles and can be used in a variety of ways.Website: Magenta
