Project designed by Candace Kling.
Materials:
1-1/2-inch wide ribbon
faux stamens
green cotton embroidery floss
#7 needle
chenille needle
Lacis khaki nylon thread (#474)
ball head pins
scissors
Steps:
1. Cut a 5-1/10-inch length of 1-1/2-inch wide ribbon.
2. Fold the ends to meet at the center of the ribbon.
3. Secure the folds with straight pins (figure A).
4. Thread a needle with a knotted piece of green cotton embroidery floss through the middle of the ribbon where the edges meet. This creates the stem on which the flower dangles.
5. Place six stamens together, one longer than the others, and whip stitch a knotted piece of khaki-colored thread around the stamens to secure them (figure B). Thread the stamens through the center of the ribbon (figure C).
6. Using a running stitch, stitch a diamond shape around the front of the ribbon so that the points of the diamond touch the edges of the folds (figure D). To finish the diamond, thread past the original knot and through to the bottom side of the ribbon.
7. Pull the thread so the ribbon gathers to create a ribbon flower. Knot the thread to secure.
8. Use the ribbon flowers to embellish household items.
