Host Carol Duvall demonstrates how to make a quilted tote bag to carry all of your crafting items.
Materials:
two lengths of 7" x 22 materials for the handles
two lengths of 22" x 36" material for the bag - one piece of material must be quilted
compatible piece for the lining
batting for handles and bag
matching thread
needles
kitchen plastic wrap
scissors
sewing pencil
Steps:
- Fold handle strip in half lengthwise and stitch taking a 1/2-inch seam. Turn right side out.
- Fold batting in half lengthwise and wrap in plastic wrap. Insert the handle tube and work through. Put aside.
- Fold fabric pieces in half crosswise and stitch up the sides. If you're adding batting, now is the time to cut it to the desired size. Stitch all the way around and attach with fusible webbing or spray adhesive.
- Refold from points and lay flat. Draw a line and stitch across, repeating this step for each piece. Be certain that the side angle measurements match.
- Turn pieces right side out and slip lining into outer bag. Fold top hem in 1/2-inch or more.
- Add handles and join the two bags with a row or two of zigzag stitching.
