Dog enthusiasts learn how to make clothing for their pets.
The Carol Duvall Show camera crew visits the heart of New York City to focus on the Craft and Yarn Council's annual Knit Out event.

With more than 20 million men and women knitting and crocheting in North America, the event attracts more than 7,000 knitting and crocheting enthusiasts and gets bigger every year. "You have many coming from all over to really celebrate an art that they love," says knitter Richard Caron. "They really show the passion of what they do."

At 6' 8" and 240 pounds, Witt Pratt found it difficult to find the types of sweaters he likes to wear in department stores, so he took up the art of knitting. Once upon a time, especially in eastern and northern Europe, the men did the knitting, and so, carrying on a tradition, Pratt is particularly proud of his talent.

Knit Out brings all sorts of people together to show off what they've accomplished, to teach different techniques and to learn new skills. Experience teachers are available and runway fashion shows portray the latest styes. "I think the most important thing is that we're teaching people," says knitter Fran Krackow. "We're reviving the craft again."
