Blank Canvas Needlework

While it is quite common for needlepointers and embroiderers to work from painted canvases or charted designs, artist Ann Caswell prefers to start with a blank canvas. Caswell works much as a painter does, beside a lake for example, using needle and threads to "paint" the scene that she wishes to portray.

She's particularly adept at selecting threads to mimic her surroundings, be they heavier for a tree trunk or lighter for a blade of grass.
