Mosaic Garden Pot

Materials:

colored glass (Old dishes work great.)
thick towel
hammer
safety goggles
gloves
ceramic-tile adhesive
old vase, clay pot, flowerpot or other container
dry tile grout
acrylic additive
heavy rubber gloves
dry towel
sandpaper

Steps:


  1. Place several pieces of colored glass between layers of a thick towel.

  • Break up the glass pieces with a hammer (figure A).
    * Note: Don't forget to wear safety goggles and gloves for this step.

  • Place tile adhesive on one side of the glass and press firmly onto the side of the container. Continue adhering glass pieces until entire surface is covered. There will be narrow spaces between the pieces. Allow to dry for at least eight hours.

  • Mix grout and acrylic additive together until it is the consistency of mud. Apply the grout to the container, pushing it in deep with heavy rubber gloves (figure B).

  • Once the crevices have been filled, use a dry towel to remove the excess wet grout. Mist the surface with water if the grout begins to dry before the excess has been removed.

  • Once the container has dried, use a piece of sandpaper to remove any sharp glass edges.
