Metal Punching

Marilyn Petrovic joins host Carol Duvall to demonstrate the art of metal punching.

Materials:

5" x 7" sheet of tin
fine steel wool
punch tools (small & medium)
rubber mallet
pattern
punch pad
stencil cream

Steps:

  1. Clean metal by scouring it with a piece of fine steel wool.
  2. Tape metal to the punching pad.
  3. Tape pattern to the metal.
  4. Punch with a tool and mallet.
  5. Metal will begin to buckle slightly after several punches. Turn it over and hammer it with the mallet to flatten it out again.
  6. Finish punching.
  7. Antique the metal with stencil cream.
  8. Spray with clear acrylic.
