Steps:
- Put the armoire together, noting where the interiors begins and ends. Mark painting patterns on the armoire. Paint on any desired pattern. To duplicate the pattern on the featured project, follow the instructions below.
- Paint the armoire white on both sides. Using a sponge as a paint palette, pour a small amount of background colors of paint (minus white) randomly onto the sponge. Dab the rubber band ball into the paint. Lightly dab and roll the ball onto the doors of the armoire.
- Paint a triangle shape from the middle of the armoire doors up to the center of the armoire. Start from the far end on the sides and paint on a diagonal pattern. Note how the armoire fits together and dab this pattern on the inside of the top pieces. On the top shelf you will have a portion dabbed, and a portion plaid. The base shelf is all plaid.
- Plaid interior and shelf: Pour small amounts of blue, magenta, and dark green paint onto the sponge. Run one car tire through the blue paint. Practice first by rolling the car on a piece of paper, making a stripe design with the tire. Run tire through the paint again, blotting the tire on the paper until the tread design can be seen. Use the car to run a vertical stripe on the armoire, starting from the far right. Roll the same tire in paint again and make additional vertical lines on the armoire, using the unpainted tire as a guide to run even stripes. Repeat until the interior and shelf are covered with vertical stripes. To make horizontal stripes across the vertical stripes, cover one tractor tire with magenta-colored paint and roll it across the vertical stripes. Repeat until plaid pattern is formed on all blue, vertical stripes. Use dark green paint and a small car with tiny tires to run a single race stripe around alternating blue vertical stripes.
- Flowers: Doll shoes make great tools for painting on flowers. For each petal, dip the shoe in paint and place the heel of the doll shoe at the center of the flower, using the foot of the shoe to create the petal. Mix textures and colors to make other garden patterns. Place flowers randomly on armoire front.
- Leaves: Embellish flowers with leaves. To form dropped leaves, use green paint and point the toes of shoe downward. For other leaves, use toe of shoes, and match halves to create a full leaf. Use tiny car tires or one side of the tractor tire to create stems. Use two colors create softer patterns.
- To finish: Cover edges of the armoire by applying multiple colors of ribbon. Use the end of a paintbrush to manipulate ribbon into the harder turns at the top panel.
