Spooktacular Trimmings
Carol Duvall Show : Episode CDS-171 -- More Projects » Carol divulges a couple of easy and inexpensive ways to dress up your house for Halloween:
Gauze Ghosts
Form the head and arms out of aluminum foil, and tape to the top of a pop or beer bottle. To stiffen the gauze, bring 1/2 cup water and 1/2 cup sugar to a boil. Saturate the cheesecloth and then wring it out. Drape the cloth over the bottle and let it dry and harden. Glue on construction paper eyes.
Squishy Pumpkins
Slice off the bottom of a foam craft ball (use various sizes) so that it has a flat base. Put a toothpick in the top of the ball, wrap a string around the toothpick and pull it down to the base to mark off the "sections" of the pumpkin. Mark these with a pencil or marker. Trace the sections with tissue paper or tracing paper to produce wedge patterns. Trace the patterns on felt and cut them apart with scissors. Cut into/score the lines on the foam ball with an craft or utility knife. Place the felt pieces on the ball and push the edges into the scored lines with a nail file. Do this all the way around. For the "stem", stick wire into the top of the ball, cover it with aluminum foil and then cover it again with floral tape. Glue on felt eyes, nose, mouth and--if desired--feet.
