Figure D
Follow along with Design Originals Christy McNeill as she turns an ordinary garden glove into a cute, green turtle ready for a home in the garden. Don't worry, this happy turtle won't wander off.

Materials:

one adult work glove
four-inch clay saucer
five-inch clay saucer
polyester fiberfill
two 3/8-inch wood button plugs
needle and heavy duty thread
small sponge
glue gun
acrylic paints--medium green, dark green, black, white, yellow

Steps:

  1. Cut thumb off glove for head. Use fingers for feet. With fiberfill, firmly stuff head and two inches of each foot (figure A).
  2. With needle and thread, make two straight stitches around end of each foot to form three toes. Make two straight stitches from top of head to the same point at bottom of head to form nose (figure B).
  3. Cut tail shape from center of glove.
  4. Glue tail, feet and head in four-inch saucer. Feet should be glued to point down slightly (figure C). For the eyes, glue wooden buttons to top of head.
  5. Paint four-inch saucer, feet, tail, and head medium green and dot with dark green. Paint eyelids medium green, irises yellow, and pupils black. Highlight eyes with white dots.
  6. Paint the five-inch saucer dark green and sponge over with medium green.
  7. Glue the five-inch saucer to top of turtle (figure D).
