Materials:

Red Heart Baby & Fingering Weight Yarn, Art. E.254 (1 3/4 oz. skein); a yarn made of 100% Monsanto Acrylic with Bounce-Back fiber, worsted weight yarn
4 skeins #1 White
For Duplicate Stitch: Embroidery floss
3 skeins dusty rose, or desired color
Knitting needles, #3, #5, and #6, or size required to knit to gauge
Crochet hook, size D
Three buttons 3/8" in diameter
Yarn needle for duplicate stitch

Size: Instructions are given for 6 month size.

Gauge: 25 sts = 4" (Body Pattern on #5 needles).

Notes: For experienced knitters only. Several different stitch patterns are used throughout; these are given at beginning of directions. Jacket is worked in one piece to armhole.

Special Stitches:
When instructed to sl 1, sl st as to knit.
Yf: Yarn is at back of work; take yarn from back to front over right-hand needle, around the needle and to the back.
Yarn is in correct position to knit next stitch.
Yrn: Yarn around needle; used to make a stitch between two purl stitches.

Patterns:
Stockinette Stitch: Knit on right side; purl on wrong side.
Border Pattern: Multiple of 10 + 3.
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4 (Right Side): K 2, * yo, k 3, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, k 3, yo, k 1; repeat from * across, end last repeat with k 2 instead of k 1.
Row 5: Purl.
Row 6: K 2, * k 1, yo, k 2, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, k 2, yo, k 2; repeat from * across, end last repeat with k 3 instead of k 2.
Row 7: Purl.
Row 8: K 2, * k 2, yo, k 1, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, k 1, yo, k 3; repeat from * across, end last repeat with k 4 instead of k 3.
Row 9: Purl.
Row 10: K 2, * k 3, yo, sl 1, k 2 tog, psso, yo, k 4; repeat from * across, end last repeat k 5 instead of k 4.
Row 11: Purl.
Row 12: Repeat Row 4.
Row 13: Purl.
Body Pattern: Multiple of 11 sts.
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: Purl.
Row 5: * K 9, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso *; repeat from * to * across.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: * K 6, k 2 tog, yf, k 1, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso *; repeat from * to * across.
Row 8: Purl.
Rows 9 through 11: repeat Rows 1 through 3.
Row 12: P 1, * p 3 tog and leave sts on needle, yrn, p the same 3 sts tog (star stitch completed), p 1; repeat from * across.
Eyelet: Multiple of 2 + 1. K 1, * yo, k 2 tog; repeat from * across.

Sweater:
Beg at bottom edge with #6 needles and White, cast on 133 sts. Work Border Pattern, Rows 1 through 13. K 1 row, p 1 row, k 1 row, and inc 1 st each edge on last row-135 sts. Change to #5 needles and begin Body Pattern as follows:
Work Row 12 Body Pattern and end last repeat with p 3 rather than p 1, then work Body Pattern, Rows 1 through 4.
Row 5: K 6, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso; repeat from * to * of Body Pattern, Row 5, end k 6.
Row 6: Work as for Body Pattern, Row 6.
Row 7: K 4, k 2 tog, yf, k 1, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso; repeat from * to * of Body Pattern, Row 7, end k 5.
Row 8: Work as for Body Pattern, Row 8.
Rows 9 through 11: Work as for Body Pattern, Rows 1 through 3.
Row 12: Work Body Pattern, Row 12. (Note: Check measurement; piece should be 21 1/2" wide.) Repeat Body Pattern, Rows 1 through 12 once more; then repeat Rows 1 and 2.
Divide for Front and Back: K 30 for right front, bind off 6 for underarm, k 63 for back, bind off 6 for underarm; sl these 93 sts to stitch holder; k 30 for left front.
Left Front: Next Row: P 30.
Shape Armholes and Neck: Keeping to pattern as established, bind off 2 sts at beg of next 3 arm edge rows, 1 st at arm edge on each of next 3 rows. At the same time, on neck edge rows, work decs as follows: Work to last 3 sts, k 2 tog, k 1 (1 st dec at neck edge). Work neck edge dec on next row, then every 4th row 8 times more-11 sts after all decs completed. Work even in pattern until 11 1/2" from beg. Bind off.
Back: Wrong side facing, sl 63 sts from st holder to #5 needle.
Shape Armholes: join White and, keeping to pattern, bind off 2 sts at beg of next 6 rows; then, bind off 1 st at beg of next 6 row-45 sts. Work until same length as Left Front. Bind off.
Right Front: Wrong side facing, sl 30 sts from st holder to #5 needle.
Shape Armholes and Neck: Bind off 2 sts for armhole, p across. Next Row: Beg at neck edge, k 1, sl 1, k 1, psso for neck edge, work in pattern across. Continue working same as Left Front, reversing shaping.

Sleeve:
With #6 needles and White, cast on 53 sts. Work Border Pattern, Rows 1 through 11. Change to #5 needles and work Eyelet row.
Next Row: Purl. Begin Body Pattern and work Rows 1 through 4.
Row 5: K 4, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso; repeat from * to * of Body Pattern, Row 5, end k 3.
Row 6: Work as established.
Row 7: K 2, k 2 tog, yf, k 1, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso; repeat from * to * of Body Pattern, Row 7, end k 2. Row 8: Work as established.
Rows 9 through 12: Work Body Pattern, Rows 9 through 12. Repeat Rows 1 through 12, then Rows 1 through 8.
Shape Cap: Keeping to pattern, bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then bind off 1 st each edge until 45 sts remain.
Work even in pattern until 10 1/2" from beg. Bind off 1 st at beg of next 6 rows-39 sts. Work until 11 1/2" from beg. Bind off.

Finishing:
Sew shoulder seams; on Sleeves, sew underarm seams. Sew sleeves in place; gather sleeve slightly across top.
Left Front Border: Right side facing, with #3 needle and White, pick up and k 43 sts evenly spaced from neck to bottom.
K 4 rows. Bind off as to k.
Right Front Border (Buttonhole Border): Right side facing, with #3 needles and White, pick up and k 43 sts evenly spaced along front.
Next Row: Mark for first buttonhole at neck edge, the next buttonhole 1" below, the last 1" below second marker. K row and at each marker work yo, k 2 tog; work remaining sts in k. K 3 rows more. Bind off as to k.
Neck Border: Row 1: Right side facing, with piece turned to work across right side neck, with crochet hook, join White in top edge and work 23 sc evenly spaced to shoulder seam, work 25 sc evenly spaced across back neck, 22 sc evenly spaced across next neck edge. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in 24 sc, * draw up a loop in each of next 2 sc, yo and through 3 loops on hook (1 sc dec), sc in next 2 sc; repeat from * 7 times more, dec 1 sc, sc in 24 sc. Turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, * skip 1 sc, in next sc work sl st, ch 3, and dc; repeat from * across, end sl st in last sc.
Fasten off.
Ties: Make 2. With #5 needles and White, cast on 125 sts. Bind off. Weave Tie through Eyelets at Sleeve cuff edge.
Duplicate Stitch: Using all six strands of 6-strand embroidery floss, work Duplicate Stitch hearts as follows: Work 1 Duplicate Stitch on one row of knitting; on knit row directly above, work Duplicate Stitch on each side of first stitch. In this manner, working to side of crochet neck border, work 2 hearts on right front; another on left front.
Buttons: Using all six strands of 6-strand embroidery floss, sew buttons opposite buttonholes.

Bonnet:
Beg at front, with #6 needles and White, cast on 83 sts. Work Border Pattern, Rows 1 through 13.
Next 3 rows: Beg with k row, work in Stockinette Stitch. Change to #5 needles.
Next Row: P 2 tog, work Star Stitch (see Body Pattern, Row 12), p 1; repeat from * across, end last repeat, p 2 tog-81 sts. Work Body Pattern, Rows 1 through 4.
Row 5: K 5, k 2 tog, yf, k 1, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso, * k 6, k 2 tog, yf, k 1, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso; repeat from * to last 5 sts, k 5.
Row 6: Purl.
Row 7: K 7, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso, * k 9, yf, sl 1, k 1, psso; repeat from * to last 6 sts, end k 6.
Row 8: Purl.
Rows 9 through 12: Work Body Pattern, Rows 9 through 12. Repeat Rows 1 through 8. Keeping to pattern, bind off 22 sts at beg of next 2 rows-37 sts. Work Rows 11 and 12, then work Rows 1 through 12, finish by working Rows 1 through 8. Bind off.

Finishing:
Fold last rows over (rows after bind off); sew to sides.
Ties and border: With #5 needles and White, cast on 60 sts for tie, right side facing, with Bonnet turned to work across bottom (neck edge), pick up and k 36 sts evenly spaced to seam, pick up and k 36 sts across back, pick up and k 36 sts along next side, cast on 60 sts for second tie. K 96, (k 3 tog) 12 times, k 96.
Next 2 Rows: Knit. Bind off as to k.

Booties:
Sole: With #3 needles and White, cast on 13 sts. P 1 row, then k 1 row and inc 1 st each edge.
Next 24 rows: Beg with p row, work in Stockinette Stitch.
Next Row: K 2 tog, k to last 2 sts, k 2 tog.
Next Row: P 13. Bind off.
Top: With #3 needles and White, cast on 13 sts.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: K and inc 1 st each edge.
Row 3: Purl.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 two times more-19 sts. Work 4 rows in Stockinette Stitch. K next row and dec 1 st each edge, p 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows until 13 sts remain. Work Eyelet Pattern on next row, then p 1 row. Continue in Stockinette Stitch and dec 1 st each edge 2 times more-9 sts. Work 3 rows more in Stockinette Stitch. Bind off as to k.
Side Section: With #6 needles and White, cast on 53 sts. Work Border Pattern, Rows 1 through 11. Change to #3 needles and work Eyelet Pattern.
Next Row: Knit.
Next Row: * K 2 tog, k 1, repeat from * across, end k 2 tog-35 sts.
Next 12 Rows: Knit. Bind off loosely.

Finishing:
Center and sew Side Section around back of Sole-k rows should fit to Sole; at front, about 1" of Sole will be loose.
Place Top piece at toe; sew toe, then sew Top along remaining edge of Sole; sew along Side Section edge.
Duplicate Stitch: Working same as on Jacket, using six strands of 6-strand embroidery floss, Duplicate Stitch three hearts evenly spaced above seam on Top of Bootie; work another three hearts below seam on Sole.
Tie: With #5 needles and White, cast on 125 sts. Bind off all sts. Weave Tie through Eyelets and center. Tie bow to secure on foot.
