Turn discarded letter trays into a functional telephone table. The small size tucks into any corner while offering plenty of room for phone essentials: paper, pens and telephone books. Or, glue two letter trays back-to-back and add feet plus two braces to stylishly hold favorite reading materials.

Materials:

2 wooden letter trays
drill
3/8" paddle bit
four 1" x 1" boards (about 6" long)
four 1" x 1" boards (about 2' long)
8 double-sided screws
pliers
industrial-strength glue
16 felt pads
4 wood caps
scrap wood block

Steps:

1. Put one letter tray on a scrap wood block and drill a hole in each corner. Repeat with the other tray.

2. Place felt pads in each corner and on the opposite side of the holes on the underside of the trays to help the legs attach tightly.

3. Drill a hole into one end of the shorter 1" x 1" pieces and set them aside.

4. Drill a hole into each end of the longer 1" x 1" pieces and put a screw in each end of them.

5. Push the screw on one of the long pieces of wood down through the hole in the bottom tray and screw a shorter piece to it on the bottom side. Repeat this process until all the pieces of wood are attached.

6. Place the top tray over the screws and glue wood caps on to cover the screws in all four corners.
