Figure A
Steps:

  1. Apply a semi-gloss base coat of a color to your liking to the surface (figure A).

Figure B
  • Brush the paint/glaze mixture generously but randomly onto the surface (figure B). The glaze allows the color of the base paint to show through if mixed properly. The glaze also thins the paint without making it watery, affords more working time since it doesn't dry as quickly. It is a must for faux finishes.

    Figure C
  • Work at painting the room in sections, with strips of plastic cut for each section. Place a piece of plastic onto the treated surface (figure C), and move it around. Be careful not to press too hard with your hands as that will leave finger and hand prints. If you do make a mistake, peel off and discard the plastic, then start again.

    Figure E
  • To add another element to the surface, use a textured roller. Brush paint onto just the end of the nodules on the roller and apply the first color (figure D). Wipe most of the paint off the roller between paint applications then move to the next color (figure E). Repeat until you're satisfied with the result.
