Celestial Wall Decor

Try this simple and elegant celestial wall finish using antique iron architectural stars.

Materials:
various size of iron "barn stars"
screws
washers
wire brush
soft bristle paintbrush
black matte spray paint
small sea sponge
acrylic paint – gray, blue, black

Steps:


  1. Paint a wall in room a color that works with your decor.

  • Use a wire brush to remove rust and dirt from the stars (figure A).

  • Spray paint stars with matte black spray paint to give them a wrought iron look (figure B). Let dry.

  • The barn stars have a hole in the center of each for screws, nails, etc. Use washers to make the hole the appropriate size and fashion a nice finish (figure C).

  • Put a small amount of each acrylic paint color on a plastic plate. Dampen the sponge and randomly dip sponge in colors. Sponge paint lightly over stars (figure D). Blend and overlap colors allowing some of the black to show through. Let dry well.

  • Attach stars randomly over wall with screws (figure E).

    Other ideas


    • Attach stars along the top of wall about 1 foot down from ceiling in a straight line all around a wall.

    • Create a chair rail with a line of stars.

    • Attach to wall over a doorway or window.

    • Gold leaf stars for a more romantic elegant look.
