For her second project, Nikola Davidson attaches retro-inspired fabric to the back of a recycled glass tray to produce a stylish serving tray.

Materials:

recycled glass tray
retro fabric
scissors
non-toxic sealant (Mod-Podge)
paintbrush
craft knife
sandpaper
non-toxic varnish

Steps:

1. Cut a piece of retro designed fabric so it is slightly larger than the glass tray (figure A).

2. Apply a thin coat of sealant to the back of the tray with a brush (figure B).

3. Lay the fabric over the coat of sealant (figure C).

4. Carefully press the fabric onto the sealant until smooth.

5. Cut off excess fabric with scissors.

6. Place sealant on the edges and smooth the fabric over the edges (figure D).

7. Allow to dry for an hour.

8. Apply a coat of sealant on the back of the fabric.

9. Allow to dry for an hour.

10. Carefully cut the fabric off the edges with a craft knife (figure E).

11. Sand the back of the fabric with sandpaper (figure F).

12. Apply a coat of sealant over the back of the fabric.

13. Allow to dry.

14. Alternate coats of sealant with sandpapering until there are five coats of sealant on the back of the retro serving tray.

15. Smooth all the edges with a craft knife.

16. Apply a coat of non-toxic varnish.

17. Allow to dry for a few hours.

18. Lightly sandpaper.

19. Apply a second coat of non-toxic varnish to the fabric side of the retro tray.
