Crafts expert Carol Scheffler enhances inexpensive rubber flip-flops with simple ribbons and markers. She demonstrates what to do and describes how easy it is. The finished products look like boutique sandals for a fraction of the cost. This is a great project for children.
Materials:
sandals
paint pens (oil-based paint)
silk flowers
double-sided tape
ribbon (two feet of material)
Steps:
- Ideally, find five-and-dime sandals (as inexpensive as $1). Doodle to your heart's content (figure A) with the paint pens. Stick to around three colors--any more than that and it starts to get too busy.
- Putting the flower on the sandal can be tricky but becomes easier with double-sided tape (figure B). Apply the tape down each strip of sandal and pull off release paper.
- Trim the flower stem to around one inch and center flower sandal. Make sure stem is firmly attached to double-sided tape.
- With the ribbon, wrap tightly around the stem and sandal strip, concealing the stem (figure C). The ribbon will help the ribbon adhere.
