In response to a viewer letter, Barbara Johnston, creator of the "Dollmaker's Journal," shows host Carol Duvall how to make doll clothes for soft dolls. Johnston uses fabric rectangles for skirts and other clothing. She then paints the bodice, hair and shoes. The rectangle for a skirt should be 2-1/2 times the waist size of the doll. It can then be gathered on one edge and attached to a waistband made from another rectangle.
Barbara has collected dolls from around the world. Included among these are ethnic dolls from Russia, Istanbul and Peru. One of the Russian dolls is modern, and the other is a 1930s tourist doll. A very special doll came from an Indian tribe from a Peruvian rainforest. This doll was made to honor this particular tribe's ancestors, while another was a burial doll.
