For Gaylen Peterson the classroom has special meaning. It was in his high school art classroom where his teacher gave his class the opportunity to work with the medium of their choice for the remaining six weeks of the semester, Gaylen chose ceramics. It was also there that he decided to pursue a degree in art education that would bring him right back to the classroom, but this time as an art teacher. When he isn’t busy ‘paying it forward’ with a new generation of art students, he’s using what he has learned to create distinctive pieces of ceramics textured with items like cactus, stretched springs and rope.
