Figure A--Capturing the movements of animals realistically, through the medium of clay pottery, defines the work of artist Douglas Cornett. He bases his designs on how animals move, and gathers information from books, magazines and trips to the zoo.
Figure B--Cornett first molds the clay into the basic shape of the animal. The design evolves as problems crop up, such as how to position a paw or ear. He creates about five new designs a year.
Figure C--After the clay figure is complete, Cornett places it in a box and fills it with a plaster mix to create a mold. Each mold can be used to cast about 100 pieces of pottery.
