The Carol Duvall Show cameras visit Debra Swauger, who has been working with ceramics since high school. Swauger took ceramic classes after graduating and decided this was it--the thing she wanted to do with her life.

A self-taught artist, Swauger uses standard, easy-to-find materials. She spent some time dabbling in porcelain, discovered these wonderful ocean-themed ideas and fell in love with them. To fashion her ocean-theme ceramics, Swauger throws the basic shapes, lets them dry, then begins altering and texturing them individually. She airbrushes and/or glazes each piece, then fires them in a home studio electric kiln. While most of Swauger's pieces are functional, some are purely decorative.
