Materials:
Fimo Soft polymer clay
- two or three blocks of black - #9
- one block of cherry red - #26
gold foil
Rub 'n Buff brush-on metallic colors
wire mesh
rubber stamp
Chinese coin
bamboo/twig
rock
corn starch
glue
pasta maker
NuBlade Kato clay tool
Steps:
1. Condition all clay.
2. Flatten the black clay in a pasta maker at the thickest setting, making it large enough to cover the entire surface of the rock (figure A).
3. Lay gold foil over the black clay (figure B).
4. Rub the rock lightly with cornstarch to prevent the clay from sticking to the rock.
5. Cover the entire rock with the foiled clay face down (figure C), smoothing all seams.
6. Texturize the clay with wire mesh (figure D).
7. Cut around the circumference of the clay to create a lid (figure E).
8. Using a rubber stamp, make impressions on the surface of the clay (figure F).
9. Bake the bowl in an oven at 265 degrees for 30 minutes. Let cool. Remove the rock.
